#11 Saints Rally Late, Stun 4th-ranked Barry 4-3
DECATUR, AL – North Georgia used a
two-out 7th inning rally to force extra innings Sunday morning
where they prevailed 4-3 over 4th-ranked Barry University on the
final day of the 2009 UAH Charger Chillout.
Two top 15 teams in the nation squaring off lived up to all the
hype Sunday morning as the 11th-ranked Saints found themselves down
2-0 in the top of the seventh with two outs and Hilary Cox standing
on first who reached base earlier in the inning courtesy of an
error.
With the game on the line, Kim Stercay stepped to the plate and
blasted just her second career home run to tie the game 2-2.
In extra innings, a runner was placed on second base and Laura
Voyles led off and wasted little time as she launched a two-run
homer of her own to give the Saints a 4-2 eighth inning lead.
Sarah Phillips (4-1) pitched around three errors in the bottom of
the inning as North Georgia came away with the 4-3 victory in eight
innings.
The Saints will battle yet another ranked opponent this afternoon
as they take on 22nd-ranked Alabama-Huntsville at 2:30 p.m. (EST)
