Saints Score 30 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep
DAHLONEGA, GA – The 9th-ranked North
Georgia softball team combined to score 30 runs on as many hits to
sweep a doubleheader 11-0 and 19-0 from Columbia Union Monday
afternoon at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in non-conference
action.
The Saints improved to 16-2 on the season and run their win-streak
to eight games, while the Pioneers fall to 0-6 overall.
In game one, Courtney McGuire put the Saints on the board in the
first inning with an inside the park home run, scoring Laura Voyles
and giving North Georgia an early 2-0 advantage. After a four-run
opening frame, Pilar Harden crushed her second career home run as
part of a four-run second inning to give the Saints an 8-0
lead.
Sarah Phillips (9-1) got the win in 3.0 innings of work as she
held the Pioneers hitless while striking out six.
Game two was much of the same as North Georgia pushed five runs
across in the opening inning on five hits and one Columbia Union
error. Leslee Smith, Jessica Skeels, and Hilary Cox all drove home
runs in the five-run inning.
The second frame saw North Georgia put together their biggest
inning of the season, plating 14 runs on 11 hits. The Saints batted
around twice and Cox provided two RBI doubles in both her trips to
the plate, while Kaelin Farrington capped off the scoring in the
inning by singling up the middle to score Kayla Martin and make it
19-0.
Trisha Snider (7-1) picked up the win, going three innings and
allowing one hit while striking out four, while Ansley Anderson
came on to pitch the final two innings and did not allow a hit.
North Georgia returns to action on Thursday afternoon, hosting
Augusta State University to open Peach Belt Conference play. A
doubleheader with the Jaguars is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
