Saints Take Two More, Extend Win Streak to 12
ST AUGUSTINE, FL – The 5th-ranked North
Georgia softball team continued their winning streak Saturday
afternoon, defeating Eckerd College 11-0 in game one, before
pulling away late for a 9-1 five inning victory in the nightcap on
the campus of Flagler University in non-conference action.
The Saints push their winning streak to 12 games and improve to 20-2 on the season, while Eckerd College falls to 9-15 overall.
In game one, The Saints blew it open early with two runs in the first inning and four more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Leslee Smith provided an RBI hit in the first inning, while Courtney McGuire added fireworks in the second frame with a three-run blast to cap the four-run inning.
The Saints continued to launch the long ball as Pilar Harden provided a solo homerun in the fifth inning, and Jessica Skeels capped a four-run seventh inning with two-run shot to plate Harden and give North Georgia an 11-0 shutout victory in games one.
Sarah Phillips (11-1) tossed her best game of the year, recording a perfect game in 6.0 innings of work while striking out eight. Nicole Adkison came on in the seventh to close out the Tritons, allowing one hit in the final frame.
In the nightcap, North Georgia scored a pair of runs in the first inning before exploding for seven runs in the fourth to run-rule Eckerd 9-1.
McGuire did it once again, this time smacking a grand slam for her PBC leading 7th long ball of the season, while four North Georgia players notched multiple hits in the contest.
Trisha Snider (9-1) picked up the win in all 5.0 innings for work, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five.
North Georgia returns to action on Sunday afternoon, taking on a soon-to-be PBC opponent Flagler College with a doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m.
