Saints Run All Over Lynn at Charger Chillout
DECATUR, AL – 11th-ranked North Georgia
found themselves down four runs early, but the Saints came back
with seven unanswered runs on their way to a 10-5 victory over Lynn
University Saturday evening on day two of the 2009 UAH Charger
Chillout.
The Saints improve to 8-1 on the year, while Lynn University falls
to 6-10 on the season.
After the Knights broke out with four second-inning runs, North
Georgia’s bats came to life and cut the lead in half during
the bottom half of the second inning as Stephanie Farmakis and Kim
Stercay each drove home a run to make it 4-2.
In the third inning, Leslee Smith broke through with her second
three-run blast in as many days, plating Courtney McGuire and Kasey
Knight to give the Saints their first lead of the game at 5-4.
The Saints would continue to add runs in the fifth inning as Smith
stayed hot, sending another home run, this time a two run bomb, to
left field for a 7-4 lead.
Lynn put a single run on the board in the sixth inning, and North
Georgia answered with three more of their own in the bottom of the
frame to defeat the Knights 10-5.
Trisha Snider (4-0) picked up the complete game victory. After a
shaky second inning, Snider settled in and allowed eight hits and
five runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings.
Smith finished the game going 2-3 with two home runs, five runs
batted in, and a walk, while three other players tallied a pair of
hits.
The Saints return to action Sunday afternoon for the final day of
the 2009 UAH Charger Chillout as they face 4th-ranked Berry
University at 10:00 a.m., before opposing 22nd-ranked
Alabama-Huntsville at 2:30 p.m.
