Softball Continues to Shine, Ranked 5th in Nation
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
softball team has moved up four spots to #5 in the latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll released
Wednesday afternoon.
With the Saints rounding out the top five, this marks the highest
ranking of any North Georgia team since the institution entered the
NCAA and Peach Belt Conference in 2005.
The Saints, who currently sit at 16-2 overall, jump Francis Marion
and are the highest ranked team in the Peach Belt Conference. The
Patriots fell five spots and replace North Georgia in the ninth
position as the only other conference team in the poll.
The Saints have just two losses on the season, with one coming to
Alabama-Huntsville who vaulted to #2 in the country this week with
a perfect 12-0 record. North Georgia also dropped a 3-2 game to
Wayne State, but have run off eight straight wins to round out
nation’s top five teams.
North Georgia will open conference play on Thursday afternoon when
they play host to Augusta State University with a doubleheader
slated to start at 2:00 p.m. The Saints went 3-0 against the
Jaguars last season, including taking a pair of games on the
road.
The Saints were ranked 11th in the preseason poll, and moved up to
9th last week before coming in at #5 in the third poll of the
season.
