Softball Still #3 in the Nation, First in Region
NFCA Top 25 | NCAA Region Poll
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
softball team continued to dominate the latest NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional ranking, taking the top spot for the third
straight week, while the Saints stayed at the #3 spot for the
fourth straight week in the NFCA Division II Top 25 released this
afternoon.
The Saints continued to pull away in the Peach Belt Conference
last week, going a perfect 4-0 in a Carolina road trip. North
Georgia took a pair from Francis Marion in South Carolina, before
heading north to sweep two from UNC Pembroke in North Carolina.
After five straight weeks of Angelo State holding the top spot in
the NFCA Division II Top 25, Alabama-Huntsville now sits atop the
poll, followed by Angelo State, North Georgia, Southeastern
Oklahoma, and Lock Haven rounds out the nation’s top five.
The Chargers received 12 of the possible 16 first place votes for
395 points to claim the top spot. North Georgia claims the
nation’s third spot for the third straight week, while USC
Aiken joins the Saints as the only other PBC team in the top 25,
coming in at #24.
In the third NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll of the year,
North Georgia continues to distance themselves as the top team,
sitting at 33-3 overall and 29-2 against in-region teams. (Records
as of April 6) The University of South Carolina Aiken follows the
Saints for the second straight week, with Lenoir-Rhyne in third,
GCSU in fourth, and Newberry rounding out the top five. Wingate,
Francis Marion, Augusta State, Catawba, and Carson-Newman are the
second five teams in the Southeast Region.
