Saints Top NFCA Top 25 Poll for 6th Straight Week
STARKVILLE, MS
– For the fifth week in a row, North Georgia garnered all 16
first-place votes in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll
released on Wednesday afternoon and has now earned the No. 1
ranking in each of the six regular-season polls thus far in the
season.
The Saints, who claimed their second straight Peach Belt Conference
regular season championship on Tuesday afternoon with a
doubleheader sweep over Columbus State, continue to impress at 37-0
on the season, the only undefeated team at the NCAA level.
The second NCAA Division II Softball Regional Rankings of the year
were also released on Wednesday afternoon as North Georgia found
themselves atop the Southeast Region. The Saints are followed by
Lenoir-Rhyne in second, Armstrong Atlantic in third, Augusta State
in fourth, and Wingate rounds out the top five. Francis Marion and
Carson-Newman start off the second five, followed by Mars Hill,
Flagler, and Limestone.
North Georgia continues to close on the all-time record for most
consecutive wins in Peach Belt Conference history, a record that is
currently held by former league member Kennesaw State University as
the Owls put together 40 straight victories. The Saints would set
the new PBC record at 41 with a perfect mark through the regular
season.
The Saints will enter the PBC tournament next weekend as the No. 1
seed for the second straight season, looking to repeat as
tournament champions as after claiming back-to-back regular season
titles.
The top five in the latest top-25 poll outside of North Georgia has
Valdosta as the No. 2 team in the country for the second straight
week, while Hawaii Pacific jumps back into the top five at No. 3,
and Metro State is up seven places to No. 4 in the land. Midwestern
State rounds out the top five at 34-6 overall.
North Georgia will have another test this weekend as they put their
undefeated mark on the line, traveling to in-state rival Georgia
College & State University to take on the Bobcats in another
PBC doubleheader. First pitch is set for Saturday afternoon at 2:00
p.m. in Milledgeville, Georgia.
A schedule change has forced the Saints’ regular season home
finale and senior day to be moved to Wednesday, April 14, against
Lander University. Game one is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Haines &
Carolyn Hill Stadium.
