DECATUR, AL – The 2nd-ranked North Georgia softball team matched their best in school history on Sunday afternoon as the Saints took #20 Wayne State to a scoreless ninth inning and came away with a 4-1 victory over the Warriors on the final day of competition at the UAH Charger Chillout.

The Saints 10th straight victory to start the season matches their best start in school history, a mark set to start the 2008 season, as ironically North Georgia dropped their 11th game two seasons ago at the UAH Charger Chillout in a 4-3 battle with Missouri Western.

Wayne State, ranked 20th in the nation, falls to 3-2 on the season after falling 1-0 to North Alabama on Saturday afternoon, an opponent the Saints will take on in their final game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

Zeros were the name of the game on Sunday neither team was able to push a run across through the first eight innings. The Warriors had a perfect chance to win it in the last of the eighth with a runner on third and just one out, but Sara Phillips coaxed a groundout and strikeout to send it to the ninth.

In the ninth, North Georgia took advantage of a Wayne State miscue to score the first run of the game, before Jessica Skeels notched her second hit of the day, a single through the left side to plate two more runs and cap a four-run inning.

Wayne State tried their best to mount a comeback in the last of the ninth, as Banton doubled to left field to bring home a run, but the North Georgia defense would not surrender another run in the 4-1 victory.

Phillips (7-0) stayed perfect on the season, lasting all 9.0 innings and allowing just two hits and no earned runs while striking out eight and walking two.

At the plate, Skeels was the only player with more then one hit for the Saints. Five other players added base knocks, while Wayne State pitching recorded 12 strikeouts.
