Saints Set to Host Third Straight Southeast Regional

DAHLONEGA, GA – The NCAA announced Monday morning in a live selection show that 2nd-ranked North Georgia will be one of 16 host sites for the 2011 NCAA Division II Softball Championships which will be played around the country May 13-15.

The four-team tournament at North Georgia will be one of two host sites in the Southeast Region, as Lenoir-Rhyne will play host to four teams in Hickory, North Carolina.

The winner of each regional will advance to the NCAA Super Regional May 20-21, with the Super Regional Champion advancing to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Salem, Virginia, May 26-30 at the Moyer Sports Complex.

Hosting the Southeast Regional for the third consecutive year, North Georgia will be the top overall seed and will take on No. 8 seed Erskine College in the opening round on Friday evening in primetime at 7:30 p.m.

Flagler College received the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Augusta State in the opening game of the tournament at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.

North Georgia enters the 2011 NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid after claiming the program's third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship.

The Saints, who are currently ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, have won nine straight games and 21 of their last 22 games dating back to the third week in March.

Head coach Mike Davenport has guided North Georgia to a perfect 10-0 record in the NCAA Regional and Super Regional rounds in each of the last two seasons, as the Saints are looking to make a third straight World Series appearance.

The winners of both Friday games will meet on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for the right to play for the Championship, while both losers will battle on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. for the right to advance to a semifinal game later in the day. The Championship will take place on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., with an if necessary game to follow at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets to the 2011 Southeast Regional are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. Tournament passes will not be available, but general admission single session tickets will be sold at the entrance to Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

Gates will open one hour prior to each session, with stadium seats available on a first-come first-served basis. A terraced section down the third base line is also available for fans, and chairs are permissible. Animals of any kind are strictly prohibited in and around the softball complex, and coolers are also not allowed.

As one of the finest facilities in the country, Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium was home to the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional and Super Regional with a record single-game attendance of 587.

Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments across the country May 13-15.
