#15 North Georgia Takes Pair On Day Two Of UA-H Charger Chillout
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – (UNGAthletics.com) – The #15 University of North Georgia softball team registered a pair of wins on day two of the University of Alabama – Huntsville Charger Chillout breezing past Miles College 8-0 in just five innings before squeezing out a 2-1 victory over North Alabama.
Against Miles, the Nighthawks recorded a pair of runs in the first and tacked on six more in the second to coast to the 8-0 victory in five innings. Five UNG players were responsible for pounding out 12 hits fueled by a perfect 4-4 game at the plate from Taylor Anne Merritt. Kim McMillan was 3-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBI's.
Courtney Poole earned her third win of the season fanning 10 batters while allowing just two hits in five innings of work.
Against UNA, the Nighthawks used a double steal to score their first run in the bottom of the second inning when Meagan stole second while Katie Garrett nabbed home.
North Georgia then picked up an insurance run with an RBI-single by May in the fourth scoring Sarah Johnson who led off the inning with an infield single.
North Alabama had bases loaded with one out in the third inning and two runners in scoring position with one out in the fourth but neither opportunity produced runs.
UNA (4-2) cracked through in the top of the sixth when Amy Carden doubled in the Lions' lone run but the equalizing threat was ended when the second UNA runner was thrown out at the plate.
Each team recorded nine hits and an error apiece. UNG's Victoria Sink moved to 3-0 on the season after scattering nine hits in a complete game effort. She allowed a single run while striking out six batters.
Offensively, May finished a perfect 3-3 from the plate while Jessica Finch was 2-3.
North Georgia (6-2) completes play at the Charger Chillout tomorrow (Feb. 9) with a 12:00 game with Wayne State University (Mich.) before capping the three-day event with a 4:00 game with the host Chargers.
