Lady Saints Fall at #24 Clayton State in PBC Play
MORROW, GA – North Georgia saw their
two-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday evening, traveling
to 24th-ranked Clayton State University and falling 75-62 to the
Lakers in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Lady Saints fall to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in the PBC, while Clayton State improves to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the league.
North Georgia was plagued by 18 first half turnovers as the Lakers sank five three-pointers on their way to a 39-27 halftime lead. The Lady Saints led by as many as four points early in the game, but Clayton State responded and led by as many as 17 points before taking a 12-point advantage into intermission.
The Lakers started the second half on a 5-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Marie St. Fort to give Clayton State what would be their largest lead of the game at 44-27 with 17:51 remaining in the game.
North Georgia would not go away however, battling back and pulling to within eight points on two different occasions before the Lakers rallied down the stretch for the 13-point victory.
Whitney Randolph paced the Lady Saints and led all scorers with 24 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Marble followed with 19 points on 8-10 shooting in all 40 minutes of action.
Nikkisha Pritchett led Clayton State with 22 points, while St. Fort added 19 points, and Tanisha Woodard tallied 10 points to round out the Lakers in double figures.
The Lady Saints were unable to connect from behind the arc, going 0-13 from long range, while Clayton State managed to shoot 41.2 percent (7-17) from three-point land for a 21-point advantage behind the arc.
The Lady Saints will have a week off before traveling to Georgia Southwestern on January 28, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
