North Georgia Falls 84-68 to Patriots in PBC Opener

Florence, SC – Junior Whitney Randolph led the way for the Lady Saints, scoring 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double as North Georgia fell 84-68 on the road Monday evening at Francis Marion University in Peach Belt Conference action.

North Georgia falls to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Francis Marion improves to a perfect 7-0 and 1-0 in the league as both teams opened conference play.

The Lady Saints led three different times in the first half, but the Patriots went into the locker room up 37-28 at the half, thanks to an 11-4 run to end the period.

The Patriots never trailed in the second half, seeing their lead trimmed to as a few five points with under nine minutes to play in the game on a layup by Lindsay Kitchens, but FMU responded down the stretch for the 84-68 victory to stay unbeaten.

Randolph led the way for North Georgia with her third double-double of the year, while Krystyn Young added 16 points and Syretha Marble chipped in 10.

Francis Marion led a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures as Kevina Ranson tallied 16 points, Shannon Singleton-Bates had 15, Dominique Powell added 14, and Creshenda Singletary had 11 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Saints used free throws to stay in the game in the second period, going 22-28 from the foul line in the half and 29-39 in the game, while the Patriots were 13-20 overall from the charity stripe.

Francis Marion shot 53.1 percent from the field in the contest, while the Lady Saints managed just 38.1 percent.

North Georgia will look to get back on track as they travel to Carson-Newman for a December 17, matchup against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Carson Newman will enter the game at 8-2 after back-to-back losses, including a defeat against top-ranked Northern Kentucky.
