Lady Saints Comeback Falls Short at Storm Dome
AMERICUS, GA – North Georgia College
& State University trailed by as many as 24 points in the
second half before a late rally came up short and Georgia
Southwestern came away with a 76-64 victory over the Lady Saints
Wednesday evening at the Storm Dome in Peach Belt Conference
action.
North Georgia falls to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the PBC, while
Georgia Southwestern improves to 6-12 overall and 1-10 in the
league.
The Lady Saints received a pair of 21-point performances from
Syretha Marble and Whitney Randolph as the duo combined for 42
points and seven rebounds while no other North Georgia player
reached double figures.
The Lady Canes used a balanced scoring attack with four players in
double figures to hold off North Georgia down the stretch and come
away with the 12-point victory. Brittany Reynolds led the way with
18 points and six rebounds while three other GSW players finished
with 13 points.
Georgia Southwestern held the Lady Saints to 36.8 percent from the
floor and 27.3 percent from long range, while the Lady Canes shot
43.5 percent for the the floor and 50 percent from behind the
arc.
North Georgia held their only lead of the game in the opening
minute on a Randolph three-pointer, but GSW held a 16-point
halftime lead and held on for the12-point victory. The Lady Saints
fought back and pulled to within seven points with 2:22 remaining,
but the Lady Hurricanes came away with a pair of crucial offensive
rebounds late to seal the victory.
The Lady Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting
19th-ranked Francis Marion University at 2:00 p.m. as North Georgia
will host Homecoming 2009.
