Lady Bearcats Run Over North Georgia 91-66
GREENWOOD, SC – North Georgia trailed by
14 at intermission before Lander University came out in the second
half and stretched their lead to as many as 35 points before coming
away with a 91-66 victory over the Lady Saints Monday evening at
Horne Arena in PBC action.
North Georgia falls to to 5-14 on the year and 2-10 in the
conference, while Lander improved to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the
Peach Belt.
Syretha Marble and Kari McCann led the Lady Saints with 12 points
apiece, Meredith Montgomery added 10 points, and Whitney Randolph
led North Georgia with 13 rebounds.
Shannon McKever led the Lady Bearcats with 16 points and 13
rebounds, Jasmine Judge hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15
points, and Kaylyn Small and TaSheba Butler added 14 points
apiece.
Lander had leads of 8-2, 16-5 and 20-10 before the Lady Saints
closed within 20-14. The Lady Bearcats answered right back and
scored the game’s next 12 points to build their largest lead
of the half at 32-14 with six minutes leftin the first period.
Lander built its lead back to 18, 49-31, when Mukia Myrick hit
three free throws at the 16:04 mark. Judge’s 3-pointer and a
basket by Ciara Lyons pushed the Lady Bearcat lead to their largest
of the game at 23 points, 54-31, at the 15-minute mark.
The Lady Bearcats made 35-of-75 shots from the floor (47 percent),
15 of 25 free throws (60 percent), and six of 17 from 3-point range
(35 percent).
The Lady Saints made 22 of 67 shots (33 percent), 16 of 26 from the
line (62 percent), and six of 19 from behind the arc (32 percent).
The Lady Bearcats made 35-of-75 shots from the floor (47 percent),
15 of 25 free throws (60 percent), and six of 17 from 3-point range
(35 percent). Each team had 48 rebounds while Lander forced 34
turnovers while committing 23.
The Lady Saints will look to get back on track on Wednesday evening
as they travel to GCSU with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
