Lady Saints Down Mars Hill 73-66 in Home Opener
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia used a
second half surge and a 32-point performance by senior Syretha
Marble to sneak by Mars Hill College 73-66 Monday evening at
Memorial Hall in non-conference action.
Mars Hill (3-1) took control in the first half thanks to 19
turnovers by the Lady Saints as they led 42-30 at the break. Taylor
Deal was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and was 3-4 from
the field for 12 first-half points.
North Georgia (2-1) rebounded in the second half however, as the
Lady Saints started the second period on a 10-5 run, capped by a
layup from Stephanie Brownlee at the 13:30 mark.
The Lady Saints would take control of the game at the 8:51 mark as
Danielle Seeley drilled a corner three-pointer to put a lid on a
10-0 run and give North Georgia a 62-51 advantage.
The Lady Lions came roaring back in the final minutes, pulling to
within three points on a pair of Brittini Young free throws, but
Marble sealed it for the The Lady Saints, sinking four foul shots
of her own in the final minute to give North Georgia the 73-66
victory.
The Lady Saints shot lights out from behind the arc, going 7-12
for 58 percent, while Mars Hill was 20-52 from the field for 39
percent.
Behind Marble’s steller 32-point performance was Brownlee
with 13, Meredith Montgomery who notched a career high with 10
points, and Seeley who also finished with 10 points and two
assists.
Deal led the way for Mars hill with 16 points and five rebounds,
while Jocelyn Williams scored in double figures with 12 points in
17 minutes of action.
North Georgia returns to action at home over the weekend, hosting
West Alabama and West Georgia in a Thanksgiving holiday classic.
