DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to USC Aiken this week for the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Saints will enter at the #5 seed, while the Lady Saints tip-off as the #9 seed.

The Lady Saints will oppose UNC Pembroke, a squad that lost five of their last seven games and enter the tournament as the #8 seed. The Lady Braves and Lady Saints split their regular season meetings, with both teams holding serve on their home courts. North Georgia is attending their second PBC Tournament, going 1-1 last season in their debut. The match up is set for the opening game of the tournament on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

The men’s team will oppose the #4 seed and the 25th-ranked Bobcats of Georgia College & State University Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., as the Saints look to advance to the tournament semifinal round for the second consecutive year.

The Bobcats have dominated the series in recent history, going 7-0 against the Saints since North Georgia entered the league in 2005. Of those seven losses, North Georgia fell by two points last season in Milledgeville, before the Saints went down to the buzzer earlier this year at home and fell 65-64 to the Bobcats.

Last season, the Saints were 0-2 against Armstrong Atlantic in the regular season, but the Saints stepped up in the quarterfinal round to defeat the Pirates 88-86 to pick up their fist-ever PBC Tournament victory.

The Lady Saints will travel to USC Aiken Tuesday morning, while the men’s team will board their charter for South Carolina on Thursday evening.
