Lady Saints Clamp Down, Route Reinhardt 71-31
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia women’s basketball team picked up
their first victory of the year Monday evening, holding Reinhardt
to single digits in the first half before pulling away for a 71-31
victory over the Lady Eagles in non-conference action.
North Georgia now won nine of there last ten season openers as the
Lady Saints routed Reinhardt College 71-31, not allowing the Lady
Eagles to break into double digits until the second half.
North Georgia improves to 1-0, extending their season-opening
winning streak to three, and nine of their last 10, while Reinhardt
College falls to 2-3 overall with the loss.
North Georgia jumped off the deck in the early going, holding the
Lady Eagles scoreless for the first seven minutes, taking a 17-3
lead midway through the first half, capped by a layup from Danielle
Seeley.
The Lady Saints dominated the boards, out rebounding Reinhardt
College 62-34. North Georgia had two players break into double
digit rebounds, Janyce Ealey and Whitney Randolph. Ealey led
all players in scoring with 22 points, Randolph added another 10
points, and Seeley also finished in double digits with 10
points.
Reinhardt pulled to within 14 points two different times in the
second half, but the North Georgia offense never stopped, leading
by as many as 42 points in the final minute before coming away with
the victory.
Ealey picked up a double-double in her collegiate debut, finishing
8-9 from the free throw line and a perfect 2-2 from long range.
North Georgia shot 36-percent from the field but finished the game
24-28 from the foul line. This proved to be a stat that the Lady
Eagles could not overcome.
The Lady Saints controlled the game from start to finish and never
let the Lady Eagles of Reinhardt College get anything going
offensively. The Lady Eagles shot only ten percent from the field
in the first half and finished the game shooting 17-percent. The
leading scorer and offensive leader from Reinhardt, Kinsey Galyon,
finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
North Georgia will face Newberry College at the Chick-fil-a Tip-Off
Classic in Dahlonega on Friday afternoon with tip-off set for 6:00
p.m. in Memorial Hall.
