Lady Saints Fall 74-59 to Georgia College on Senior Day
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's basketball team saw their season slip away in the second half on Saturday afternoon, as Georgia College came from behind to take down the Lady Saints 74-59 in Memorial Hall in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Bobcats sweep the season series from the Lady Saints, improving to 19-6 overall and 11-6 in the Peach Belt Conference, while North Georgia falls to 15-13 overall and 6-11 in league action.
With the loss, the Lady Saints fall short of the fourth and final position in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament, just missing out on postseason play when the University Montevallo took down Columbus State University on the final day of the regular season play.
The Lady Saints jumped on top early, never trailing as they extended their lead to double-digits at the 11:52 mark, using one of five Tiffany Marlow three-pointers in the first half to make it 16-6.
The Bobcats clawed their way back into the game and took their first lead of the afternoon on a jumper from Tammeisha Law with 4:32 remaining in the period, giving Georgia College a 30-29 edge.
North Georgia reclaimed the lead late in the half and used a 6-2 run over the final two minutes, capped by a three-pointer from Meredith Montgomery to give the Lady Saints a 40-37 lead heading into intermission.
The three-point edge at the half was short lived by the Lady Saints as Georgia College came out and knocked down back-to-back jumpers in the opening 90 seconds, shifting the advantage to the Bobcats with a 41-40 lead.
Georgia College pushed the lead to five points as Krysta Lewis caught fire and drilled a three-pointer to make it a 49-44 Bobcats lead, but North Georgia responded with a 7-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws from Sarah Stinson to deadlock the score at 51-51 and create the fourth tie of the game.
The Bobcats took over from there, using a 15-2 run to jump out to their largest lead of the day at 66-53 with just 5:19 remaining. The Lady Saints answered with five straight field goals down the stretch as Georgia College pulled away with the 15-point victory.
Seniors Montgomery and Marlow tallied 17 points apiece to lead the Lady Saints, while Lindsey Moss finished in double figures with 12 points on a 7-for-7 shooting from the free throw line. Chimere Jordan led Georgia College and all scorers with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Lewis and Dominque Huffin scored 15 and 12 points respectively to round out the Bobcats in double digits.
Tiffany Marlow, Sarah Stinson, and Meredith Montgomery were honored before the game as the three seniors played their final game in a North Georgia uniform.
