DAHLONEGA, GA – The Lady Saints dropped their third straight game on Wednesday night, falling at the hands of Armstrong Atlantic 66-61 in Memorial Hall.
North Georgia (9-8, 3-5 PBC) was led by Jaymee Carnes as usual, but it didn't come quite as easy as it has been. The sophomore scored 25 points, right at her season average, but shot just 32 percent (8-25) to do so. Carnes also finished with five rebounds and three blocks.
Stephanie Huffman played all 40 minutes of the game and recorded a double-double along the way. Huffman finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The freshman has been the glue to the rotation as of late for head coach Buffie Burson.
After once being in second place in the conference at 3-2, North Georgia has dropped three in a row to find themselves right in the middle of the PBC West Division. The Lady Saints trail Clayton State (8-1) and Columbus State (5-3), along with Georgia Southwestern (3-4).
The Lady Saints played just seven players in the game, while the starters played well over half the contest.
Freshman Giovanni Sims had a good night as she finished with 17 points. Sims also added nine rebounds and four assists.
The three-point shooting again struggled for North Georgia as they only converted on one of their nine attempts, just 11 percent.
Armstrong (11-7, 6-5 PBC) saw four players finish in double figures, as they used a balanced attack to pick up the road win.
Karolina Rykowska finished with 15 points, while Mauri Wells, Angelina Hall and D.D. Gipson each finished with 12 points a piece.
The Pirates forced the Lady Saints into 18 turnovers. North Georgia had a key opportunity with possession of the ball, trailing by three, with under a minute to play. The pressure defense of Armstrong forced freshman Stephanie Huffman into a huge turnover.
North Georgia will look to end their three-game skid when they host last-place Flagler College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:30 PM. The game will also be the 2012 Homecoming game on the campus of North Georgia.
