AUGUSTA, GA – After leading the Lady Saints to a 1-1 record in Peach Belt Conference play last week, forward Jaymee Carnes has been named the Peach Belt Conference player of the week.
The league office announced the news on Monday morning as North Georgia prepares to host Montevallo on Tuesday evening.
This is the third time this season that Carnes had earned the honors and she is only one of two players to earn the honor multiple times.
Carnes continued her dominant play last week, averaging 26.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Saints fell to Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday and rallied to beat Columbus State on Saturday afternoon.
The Gainesville, Georgia, native opened the week with a 29 point 11 rebound performance against the Hurricanes. She knocked down 10 of her 15 shots from the floor and nine of 12 free throws.
The super sophomore followed that up with a 24 point 10 rebound performance against the Cougars.
For the week Carnes shots shot 48 percent from the field, 77 percent from the charity stripe, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.
In the 10 conference games Carnes has played this year she has registered seven doubles-doubles. Through Monday she also leads the league and is ranked fourth nationally in blocks and is second in the conference in rebounding.
Through February 6, Carnes continues to lead the PBC and the nation in scoring. As the season winds down her 25.8 points per game average is just two-tenths shy of the PBC record for scoring average in a season set by Kennesaw State's Joanna Cuprys in the 1996-97 season.
Carnes and the Lady Saints return to action tomorrow, February 7, when they host Montevallo. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as North Georgia's Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) will be hosting a "Blue Out" in Memorial Hall with the first 100 receiving a free blue t-shirt.
