Saints Drop 74-61 Game to Lenoir-Rhyne in Loch Shop Classic

MORROW, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University women's basketball team dropped their third game in a row Saturday afternoon, falling 74-61 to Lenoir-Rhyne University to open their time in the Loch Shop Classic hosted by Clayton State University.

North Georgia (1-4) went 25-78 (.321) from the field but a 49.2% (31-63) effort by Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1), including going 5-12 from three-point range, helped lift the Bears to the 13-point victory. The Saints only managed to shoot 21.7% (5-23) from beyond the three-point arc.

Jaymee Carnes led all scorers with 24 points and the junior just missed out on a double-double as she also corralled in nine rebounds. Carnes went 10-27 from the field and added two assists and one block.

Stephanie Huffman also just missed out on a double-double as she ended the contest with 11 points and eight rebounds, but went 4-12 from the field.

Jordan Hiatt led the way for the Bears with 12 points and eight rebounds while Brittany Christian added 11 points of her own. Each also set up four other scores.

The Saints held the lead for just 35 seconds early in the first half but were able to stay close to the Bears for the majority of the game including allowing just a one-point Lenoir-Rhyne lead heading into halftime after a pair of free throws by Huffman.

Lenoir-Rhyne opened the second half with a 7-2 run in the first five minutes before North Georgia was able to pull back within two off a pair of free throws by Carnes, but that was as close as the Saints could manage as Lenoir-Rhyne opened things back up from there to close out the win.

North Georgia will take on Chowan University tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
