#Nighthawks Rally Back Twice To Post 78-73 PBC Road Win At Columbus State
COLUMBUS, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The #20 University of North Georgia women's basketball team snapped host Columbus State's five-game winning streak with a 78-73 Peach Belt Conference road win on Saturday in CSU's Lumpkin Center. The Nighthawks capitalized on a 27-32 (84%) evening from the free throw line to post the team's 16th victory of the season.
After North Georgia free throws tied the game at four, the Lady Cougars scored 13 of the next 14 points opening up the largest lead of the game at 17-5. The Nighthawks immediately responded with a 12-2 run to get within two and later took the lead for the first time on three free throws by Mimi Hill.
The lead exchanged hands four times over the last nine minutes of the first half and the Lady Cougars took a 42-41 lead into the locker room.
Asha Alexander scored on Columbus State's first possession and began a 16-6 spurt that pushed the lead back to double figures at 58-47 just over five minutes into the second half. The Lady Cougars made their first seven field goal attempts of the half.
North Georgia once again had an answer, scoring 17 of the next 20 points to regain the lead at 64-61.
Columbus State (14-5, 9-4 PBC) would hold its last lead with a little more than five minutes to go but a steal by Jordan Livesay set up a Hill bucket to put the Nighthawks in front for good at the five-minute mark.
Mimi Hill led all scorers for the Nighthawks with 31 points and completed her fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. Cierra Jackson added 15, including 13 in the first half, while Jordan Livesay and Stephanie Huffman added 12 apiece.
North Georgia (16-4, 10-3 PBC) returns to action on Thursday, February 13 when the Nighthawks entertain Francis Marion University on Spirit Night in Memorial Hall with tip off set for 5:30 PM.
