Women's Golf Takes 5th Place at Montevallo Invite
CALERA, AL – The North Georgia women's golf
team finished fifth in the field of five teams at the Montevallo
Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the 5,826-yard par 71
Timberline Golf Club.
West Georgia captured the team championship with a 651 total, while
Columbus State was second with 660 and Birmingham Southern finished
just one shot behind CSU for third place. Montevallo took fourth
with a 665 and North Georgia rounded out the field with a 725 after
rounds of 363 and 362.
The race for the individual title came down to the wire as
Montevallo's Emily Gibson found herself deadlocked with
Columbus State's Nikki Crowley after 36 holes with a
14-over-par 156, but Gibson's lower round on the final nine
holes gave the Falcon senior the victory.
CSU's Kimesha Anthony finished third and just one shot off
the lead, while West Georgia's Lauren Giambastiani and
Birmingham Southern's Jennifer Commander finished fourth and
fifth respectively.
Catalina Olarte paced North Georgia for the third straight event,
finishing alone in 9th place with rounds of 86 and 79 for two-day
23-over-par 165. Casey Truelove recorded a 22nd place finish,
firing an opening round 82 and final round 96 for a 178 total.
Erica Breeden put together rounds of 96 and 90, good for a 186 and
26th place overall, while Jodie Borchert finished in a tie for 28th
place with a 196. Courtney Hall rounded out the team with a 212 to
take 31st place in the event.
The Lady Saints return to action next week, traveling to the
Birmingham Southern Invitational at Highland Park and Golf Club on
October 10-11.
