CALERA, AL – The North Georgia women's golf team shot a school record 329 in the final round of the Montevallo Invitational to finish third in the event contested at the Timberline Golf Club.
The Lady Saints two-round total of 663 (334-329) was also a school record. The previous low event score was set last October at the BSC Southern Shootout.
The Peach Belt Conference was well represented at the event with all three schools taking part finishing in the top three. Columbus State narrowly defeated host Montevallo by three stokes, while North Georgia finished third, 28 shots off the pace.
Ashlee Beck of Montevallo captured the individual title, shooting a two-day total of 152 (75-77) to edge out Columbus State's Jennifer Brueshaber by two strokes. Montevallo's Megan Clyne and Columbus State's Kimesha Anthony finished in a tie for third place, with Hilary Shiner of Montevallo rounding out the top five.
As a team the Lady Saints recorded four birdies and 78 pars.
Leading the way for North Georgia once again was Catalina Olarte who followed up an opening round 84 with a seven-over-78 to finish in a tie for sixth place. Olarte became the first Lady Saint to score in the 70's during the 2011-12 campaign, while recording 21 pars and one birdie for the tournament.
Erica Breeden had a strong tournament, setting a career low in the opening round with an 82 and she followed that up a closing 11-over-par 82 as well. Breeden finished in ninth place, recording one birdie and 15 pars.
Freshman Abbey Gill continues to impress with both of her rounds in the 80's in Alabama. Gill fired a final round 13-over-par 84m giving her a tournament total of 166 (82-84) which was good enough for sole possession of 11th place.
Casey Truelove capped off the Montevallo Invitational with an 18-over-par 89 to give her a two-day total 175 (86-89) finishing just one stroke ahead of teammate LeeAnn Noble (91-85). Truelove finished in 16th place, while Noble finished in a tie for 17th.
The Lady Saints return to action on October 9, traveling to Alabama to take part in the 2011 BSC Fall Shootout.
