Women's Golf Finishes in a Tie for 12th at Agnes McAmis Memorial
GREENVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Catalina Olarte knocked two strokes off her score from Monday's opening round, but it was not enough as the University of North Georgia women's golf team finished in a tie for 12th-place in Tusculum College's Agnes McAmis Memorial tournament following a second round 329 on Tuesday.
Tusculum finished the two-round, par-72 tournament atop the team leader board with a 615 following a 305 in the second round. The Pioneers finished just one shot ahead of Lander University in second after the Bearcats posted a 306 in the final round. North Greenville University rounded out the top three with a 628.
The Saints finished in a tie with Carson Newman College as the Eagles bounced back from an opening round 334 to post a 321 in the second round.
Lander's Teresa Caballer Hernani held on to the top individual spot with a second round 75 following her opening 71, finished four strokes ahead of Tusculum's Emee Herbert and Wingate University's Lucia Careaga who both carded a two-round 150.
Olarte posted a 77 in the second round, and when coupled with her 79 left her with a 156 leaving her tied for 13th in the field.
Freshman Mariana Pelaez carded a second-round 81 to finish with a 164 following her opening 83 to sit tied for 40th while sophomore Abbey Gill finished five strokes back with a 169 (82-87). LeeAnn Noble rounded out the Saints' scoring foursome with a 170 (82-88) while Casey Truelove finished with a 172 (88-84).
The Saint women as well as the men will next compete in a single-day match on Friday, Apr. 12 at Achasta Golf Club. The women will play in a dual match with the University of West Georgia while the men will host both Clayton State University and West Georgia.
