Women's Golf Seventh Following Opening Round of PBC Championships

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The University of North Georgia women's golf team opened the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Golf Championships with a combined first round of 340 to sit seventh following the opening round at Callaway Gardens.

Lander University currently sits atop the team leaderboard with a 307 combined stroke count, two strokes ahead of second-place Armstrong Atlantic State University. The University of North Carolina Pembroke sits five strokes back in third, but the Braves' Meghan Moore and Bearcats' Teresa Hernani are the top individuals. Both individuals carded opening 72's.

North Georgia was led in the opening round by two-time All-PBC Second Team selection Catalina Olarte who carded an opening 79 to sit tied for 11th in the field.

Casey Truelove opened things with an 84 to sit in a tie for 23rd while Mariana Pelaez wrapped up Saturday's round with an 86 to sit tied for 27th.

Abbey Gill rounded out the scoring quartet for North Georgia with an opening 91, tied for 31st in the field.

The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with an 8:00 a.m. start as the women play one final round.
