Women's Golf Team Two Strokes Off Lead At Lee University Fall Invitational
CLEVELAND, Tennessee – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia women's golf team battled a chilly and wet start to post a solid first round 326 score at the Lee University Fall Invitational. The Nighthawks stand in second place out of nine teams and are just two strokes behind the host Flames' opening round score of 324.
Carrilee Hiers anchored North Georgia's score with a 77 and stands in a tie for second place out of 48 golfers. Casey Truelove's 79 gives the senior solo possession of fourth place at the event's midway point.
Anna Higgins, Taylor Allen and Mariana Pelaez carded identical scores of 85 to round out UNG's scoring as the trio sits in a tie for 18th place.
Shorter University sits in third place just two strokes behind UNG but nine shots clear of fourth-place Trevecca Nazarene. Shorter's Pauline Schopp posted the best individual score and holds the clubhouse lead with a one-over par 73.
The team score of 326 is a new low bettering the previous season best of 327 set earlier this fall at the Lander Lady Bearcat Invitational.
The final round is set to begin tomorrow morning at the par 72 Cleveland Country Club.
