Clayton State Shocks Lady Saints 3-2 in PBC Action

North Georgia College & State University let another game slip
away Wednesday evening, pulling out to a two-goal lead before
falling 3-2 at the hands of Clayton State University in Peach Belt
The Lady Saints’ losing streaks hits three games, falling to 4-3-1 overall, and 1-2 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Clayton State wins just their second game of the year and improves to 2-6 overall, and 1-2 in the league.
North Georgia appeared to be in control early as Kelsey Martin scored her third goal of the season in the 11th minute off a pass from Lauren Schenk to give the Lady Saints a 1-0 lead.
Schenk would score a goal of her own midway through the first period as Laura Lane sent a cross into Schenk who lined a shot from the top of the box past Clayton State goalkeeper Dominque Trappio to give North Georgia a commanding 2-0 advantage.
With Clayton State down a pair of goals, Laker forward Cherie Sayon took over, scoring two first-half goals to knot the game at intermission, before scoring the game-winner in the 61st minute as the home team came storming back to stun the Lady Saints. Sayon scored her 8th, 9th, and 10th goals of the season, all coming in a span of 24 minutes.
North Georgia dominated in every statistical category, outshooting Clayton State 21-9, while attempting 10 corner kicks to the Lakers two, and totaling nine shot on goal to the home teams just four, all of which were taken by Sayon and three of which were goals.
The Lady Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Milledgeville, Ga., to take on Georgia College & State University. The Peach Belt Conference battle against the Bobcats is set for 4:00 p.m.
