Bearcats Take Lady Saints "Home Opener" 3-1
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
women’s soccer team suffered their second straight loss
Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 at the hands of Lander University
as a steady rain fell throughout the Peach Belt Conference
contest.
North Georgia falls to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Peach Belt
Conference with the loss, while Lander improves to 5-1-1 on the
season, and pick up their first league win, improving to 1-1 in the
conference.
The Bearcats never trailed in the game, scoring in the fifth minute
to take an early advantage as Christina Barbour took a pass from
Kelley Maupin and guided a shot past a sliding Jessica English for
her fifth goal of the season.
The Lady Saints answered back however, using a buzzer-beater in the
final seconds of the first half to tie the game 1-1. Natalie
Douglass provided the equalizer at the 44:58 mark, taking a pass
from Kelsey Martin for her second goal of the season.
Lander took control early in the second half, scoring the
game-winner in the 51st minute as Christin Moss scored her fourth
goal of the season to give the Bearcats a 2-1 advantage. Taylor
Jackson added some insurance in the 64th minute, her first goal of
the season as Lander went on to take a 3-1 conference victory over
the Lady Saints.
North Georgia held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, while the Lady
Saints had six shots to the Bearcats four.
The Lady Saints return to action on September 30, traveling to
Clayton State University for a Peach Belt Conference battle against
the Lakers. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
