Casey Smith Snags Another PBC Defender of the Week
AUGUSTA, GA – The awards keep coming for Casey Smith as the
senior has been tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Defender of the
Week after leading the Lady Saints to three wins and their national
ranking in school history.
The Stockbridge, Ga., native picks up the league's defensive award
for the second time in the last three weeks and the tally for
weekly honors in her career has now reached eight.
Smith made history last week as the All-American etched her way
into the PBC record books with three assists in a single game to
set the conference's all-time mark for assists in a career.
In a 4-1 victory over Clayton State, Smith assisted in the first
three goals, giving her 37 career assists and the all-time record
in the Peach Belt Conference. She then anchored a defense over the
weekend that shutout Florida Tech in a 1-0 victory, before allowing
just a single goal to 15th-ranked Florida Southern to send North
Georgia to a 2-1 victory and the team's eighth straight
victory.
She continues to represent North Georgia in the latest NCAA
National Statistics, leading the country in total assists at the
Division II level with 11, while also leading the nation in assists
per contest at 1.1.
Smith and the 25th-ranked Lady Saints return to action on Thursday
afternoon, traveling to Anderson University for a 4:30 p.m. matchup
with the Trojans in another key non-conference battle.
