DAHLONEGA, GA – The 25th-ranked North Georgia women's soccer team woke up in the second half on Tuesday evening, dominating play before a dagger in the 84th minute sent the Lady Saints to a 1-0 shutout over Georgia College at the Soccer Complex in Peach Belt Conference action.

North Georgia wins their 10th straight game, improving to 11-1 overall on the season, while the Lady Saints are only remaining unbeaten team in Peach Belt Conference play, improving to 5-0 on the year.

The Bobcats bid for their third straight win over a ranked opponent was thwarted as Georgia College falls to 7-4 on the season and 4-1 in league action.

With time running down and overtime just minutes away, the Lady Saints finally broke through at the 83:32 mark as Casey Smith sent a corner kick into the box and both teams tried to gain possession, but it was Natalie Douglass who emerged and found the back of the net for the game's lone goal. Douglass tallied her third score of the year on the play, while Smith continued her assist onslaught, notching her 13 helper of the year, a mark that still leads the country.

Both teams had plenty of chances in the first half as shots were dead even at six apiece. North Georgia's best scoring chance came in the final seconds of the period as Leanne South sent a cross into the box, finding the foot of Whitley Dover who sent a shot on goal, but Mary Rob Plunkett stepped in for the save to keep the game a scoreless tie heading to intermission.

Georgia College had their chances in the opening half as well, taking four corners to just one for the Lady Saints. The Bobcats had a pair of chances on corners, but came up empty in the first half.

Georgia College had a golden chance 14 minutes in the second half as Megan McAlpin slipped into the box and found herself wide open for a header, but the shot was fired directly at North Georgia keeper Kirsten Ross who snagged the attempt for her second save of the game.

The North Georgia defense dominated the second period, allowing just three shots, two of which turned into saves for Ross who picked up her second shutout of the year.

North Georgia held a 15-9 edge in shots after being tied at 6-6 heading into halftime, while six corners for the Lady Saints in the second half gave them a 5-7 advantage in the game.

The Lady Saints will have less than 24 hours to turn around and travel to Americus, Georgia, to battle Georgia Southwestern in another Peach Belt Conference contest. North Georgia is 6-0 all-time against the Hurricanes, having outscored the Canes 34-0 in those games. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
