Taylor Lee Named PBC Women’s Soccer Defender-of-the-Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the second time this season the Peach Belt Conference's women's soccer Defender-of-the-Week award was captured by a North Georgia College & State women's soccer player. This time, it was senior Taylor Lee taking home the weekly recognition.
A native of McDonough, Ga., Lee has been a driving force behind the Saints' stout defense for much of the season which has given up just 12 goals while the offense has netted 51 scores. But she has also provided a spark on offense when needed and last week was no difference as she led the defense in holding their two opponents to just 14 combined shots in two games and also accounted for a pair of assists.
In last week's home game against the University of Montevallo, the 5-4 defender and company held the Falcons to just 11 shots as the Saints cruised to a 4-1 victory before really stepping up the pressure on the road Saturday. North Georgia smothered the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern 8-0 in Americus, Ga. and held them to just three shots, only one of which was on goal.
In the Georgia Southwestern game Lee also set up a pair of goals to bring her season total to seven, which leads all players in the Peach Belt currently.
This season, opponents have been able to break through North Georgia's defenses for 132 shots, averaging just 11 shots per game. In comparison, the Saints have maintained control of the ball and kept the pressure on opposing goalkeepers with 306 shots for an average of 25.5 per game.
North Georgia's next contest will be at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Both the women and men will be in action starting with the women at 5:00 p.m. and the men following at around 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday night is being tabbed as "Spirit Night." Students and fans are encouraged to wear their blue and get loud Wednesday night. Students from Gainesville State are also invited to join in on the action and get a head start on supporting the teams.
Also, as part of the annual "Week of Wishes," donation jars will be located at the game for fans to show their support for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Stars can be purchased for $1 or as much as someone would like to donate with all proceeds going to the foundation.
