#16 Women's Soccer Team Falls To Florida Tech 3-0 In Season-Opener
VALDOSTA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) - The 16th ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team suffered a season-opening 3-0 loss to Florida Technical Institute this evening in the opening match of a four-team classic even hosted by Valdosta State University.
The match was scoreless in the 11th minute when FIT's Cierra Misner sent the ball to teammate Aubri Williamson who was able to get the ball around the North Georgia's Mallory Sayre for the game's first score.
Weather would cause the game to go into a delay in the 19th minute and would last around an hour before the teams returned to the pitch to continue the match.
Once again, Williamson found the back of the net to record her second goal of the season, and put the Panthers up 2-0 at the 36 minute mark of the first half.
Up by a pair of goals in the second half, the Panthers once again added to their lead when Courtney Heuston extended the Florida Tech lead to three at 3-0.
FIT recorded 12 shots in the match with eight being on goal, while the Nighthawks (0-1) tallied three shots with one on goal.
UNG's Mallory Sayre recorded five saves in goal on eight chances. The Nighthawks were only able to muster three shots with Megan Morrow posting the only shot on goal attempt.
North Georgia will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they will close out play at the VSU Soccer Classic by facing Florida Southern College with kickoff set for 12:00 PM.
