UNG's Kelly Penston Named To Daktronics All-Region Team
DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The postseason accolades for University of North Georgia women's soccer player Kelly Penston continue to roll in as she was named to the Daktronics District 3 All-Region team as announced this afternoon by national coordinators for the Daktronics All-America program.
Penston was awarded with the Peach Belt Conference's Brine Golden Ball honoring the conference's top goal scorer as the senior's 18 goals set a new UNG single season record.
Penston wrapped up the 2013 season with a hat trick of three goals in the Nighthawks' 5-3 PBC quarterfinal loss at Lander marking her fourth multi-goal performance of the year. She is currently tied for 7th nationally in goals scored after collecting a stretch of ten consecutive games mid-season with a goal scored. She garnered PBC/AstroTurf Player of the Week honors on September 16.
The senior from Suwanee, Ga. was a Daktronics Second Team All-Region selection last year and is the all-time leading goal scorer in UNG women's soccer history.
Penston was one of six Peach Belt Conference players recognized on the District 3 First Team which included Clayton State's Alicia Robinson being named the region's Player of the Year.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., recognized worldwide in its industry as the leading designer and manufacturer of electronic scoreboards, programmable display systems, and large screen video displays using light emitting diode (LED) technology. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The first team selections will now advance to the national ballot for All-America consideration.
