Lady Saints Fight off Vikings, Rally for 5-4 Victory
ROME, GA – The North Georgia women's tennis team played one of the tightest matches of the year on Thursday afternoon, using a pair of big performances to come away with a 5-4 victory over Berry College at Richards Tennis Complex.
The Lady Saints win back-to-back matches for the first time since the middle of March, improving to 9-11 overall, while the Vikings fall to 11-7 on the year.
North Georgia dropped the opening doubles match of the day, but bounced back with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, including a 9-7 victory by Jordan Poole and Juliana Moscoso Chiang as the Lady Saints stormed back to take a 2-1 advantage heading to singles play.
Needing a trio of victories in singles to secure the match, North Georgia picked up wins in straight sets by Audrey Marlette (6-3, 6-2) and Jordan Poole (6-1, 6-1) to put the pressure on Stasa Vujosevic in the final match of the day.
Vujosevic found herself down early, dropping the first set 6-2, but the senior rebounded, taking the second set 6-4 and decisive set 6-2 to give North Georgia the victory.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Georgia Southwestern for a Peach Belt Conference match against the Hurricanes. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.
