AMERICUS, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia women's cross country team got the 2013 running season off to a good start with a solid fourth place finish out of 12 teams at the Rembrance Run hosted by Georgia Southwestern State University at Sumter County Parks & Recreation Sports Complex.

Transfer Maggie Tindol led the way for the Nighthawks with a fourth place finish out of 100 runners with a 6K time of 23:23 which was only 18 seconds off the winning pace of 23:05 set by Montevallo's Cheyenne Thompson.

Teammate Emily Beusse narrowly missed a top-10 finish with a time of 23:42 which was good for 11th place overall.  Alyssa Sale (24:55, 25th), Caitlin Connell (25:05, 29th) and Ellie Tanner (25:31, 37th) rounded out the team scoring for North Georgia.

Columbus State claimed team honors with 43 team points.  UNG's team score of 106 was just six points shy of third-place Georgia Regents – Augusta.  Clayton State finished second with a team score of 80.  There were nine Peach Belt Conference schools in attendance with North Georgia crossing the line ahead of Georgia College (110), Young Harris (129), Montevallo (146), USC-Aiken (264) and host Georgia Southwestern (272).  The course at Sumter County Parks and Recreation will host the 2013 Peach Belt Championship race in October.

Both Tindol and Beusse represented UNG on the podium as top-15 finishers.

UNG returns to action next weekend when the program hosts the University of North Georgia Invitational on September 14 on UNG's Gainesville campus in Oakwood.
