Track & Field Makes Debut at Columbus State

COLUMBUS, GA – The North Georgia Track
& Field team competed last weekend at the 3rd Annual Smith
Station Panther Relays, with the men’s team placing second
place overall and besting all other Peach Belt Conference schools
at the event.
Junior Dillon Bowers continued to blow away the competition with
victories in the discuss throw, and pole vault, while finishing
second in the javelin throw. He cleared 4.8 meters in the pole
vault to to meet the minimum standard to qualify for the NCAA
Division II National Championships.
The Saints also picked up a victory in the men’s 1600-meter
sprint medley relay as Stephen Eckenroth, Ethan Hopkins, Zack
Loggins, and Alan Schmitz combined for a total time of 3:34.12 to
take first place. Clatyon State followed in second place, followed
by Tuskegee in third.
Eckenroth also took home top honors in the men’s high jump
event, clearing 6-04.00 in the finals to claim victory and edging
Reginald Davis of Tuskegee.
On the women’s side, Courtney Cantrell placed second in the
discuss throw, while the Lady Saints relay squad finished sixth in
the distance medley relay.
