AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference
released the women’s cross country All-Academic Teams
announced this afternoon from the conference office as juniors Emmy
Lawalin and Bea Nelligan were named to the first-team.
The two teams are the first in a new season-long program
recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes
in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student athlete must
participate in at least half of their team’s events, achieve
a 3.2 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and have
completed at least one full academic year at their current
institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors
nominated and voted on the selected teams.
Emmy Lawalin, a Music Education major, has a 3.82 cumulative grade
point average and recorded her best time of the year at the Mercer
Invitational, finishing the 5K course in 19:54. She had her highest
finish of the season at the PBC Pre-Conference race, finishing 14th
on the campus of Georgia College & State University. Lawalin
led her team into the 2008 NCAA Southeast Regional with a 19th
place finish, completing the 6K course with a time of 24:48.
Bea Nelligan, a Match Education major, has a 3.94 cumulative grade
point average midway through her third year at North Georgia. She
had her best time of the 2008 season at the PBC Pre-Conference
event, finishing in a time of 21:32. Nelligan raced to a 13th place
finish at the Tiger Twilight Invitational on the campus of the
University of the South, finishing the 6K race in 26:35.
