North Georgia Finishes Strong at Regionals
WINGATE, NC – North Georgia ran their
final race of the season Saturday morning, as the women finished
7th, and the men took 12th at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by
Wingate University.
In the newly aligned NCAA Southeast Region, North Georgia competed
against the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference,
and the Conference Carolinas.
The Saints finished their 10K course in 12th place in a field of
20 teams as powerhouse Queens University finished first, followed
by Columbus State University as both teams will advance to the NCAA
National Championships.
Alan Schmitz led the Saints in 36:12, followed by Tyler Mattix in
36:18 as the two leaders finished in 61st and 62nd place
respectively.
Kyle Ashcroft and Teale Marchette both finished under 37 minutes
as well, finishing in 74th and 77th place with times of 36:40 and
36:59.
Alex Kenna rounded out the top five for the Saints, crossing the
line in 37:11, good for 80th place overall.
The women followed the men’s race with their 6K event, as
Lees-McRae took home the top prize, followed by Augusta State in
second place. North Georgia finished the race in seventh place with
236 total points.
Emmy Lawalin led the Lady Saints in 19th position overall,
finishing the race in 24:58, followed by Katie Vance in 33rd place
with a time of 25:31.
Meghan Riggin finished in 26:02, good for 50th place, and Crystal
Crouch crossed the line in 26:42.
Tayler Hanson rounded out the scoring for the Lady Saints,
finishing the 6K course in 26:42 for 85th place.
The 2008 season comes to an end for the teams as Alan Schmitz,
Josh Kerzie, and Loren Blake ran their last collegiate cross
country race for North Georgia.
