Schmitz 8th In Finals, Named NCAA All-American
ANGELO, TX – North Georgia’s Alan
Schmitz competed in the NCAA Division II National Championships
Saturday evening, finishing 8th in the 800-meter finals with a time
of 1:52.34, earning NCAA Division II All-American at the conclusion
of the event.
Friday evening, Schmitz placed second in the second preliminary
heat of the championships, finishing the 800-meter race in 1:51.67
to grab the automatic qualifier to the finals.
Anthony Luna of Metro State Denver claimed the National
Championship, winning the event with a time of 1:49.26, while
Andrew Graham of Adams State placed second, crossing the line in
1:49.76.
Schmitz wraps up his storybook career at North Georgia with
All-American honors. In cross country, the senior was named to the
Peach Belt All-Conference team while competing all four years for
the Saints.
