Track & Field Competes at Birmingham-Southern
BIRMINGHAM, AL
– The North Georgia College & State University Track
& Field team made their season debut on Saturday afternoon at
the 2010 Southern Track and Field Invitational, hosted by
Birmingham-Southern at Panther Stadium.
Alabama State captured the title for the men and women, picking up
213 points in the women’s standings, followed by Samford and
Lipscomb, while on the men’s side, Albion State and Alabama
A&M took second and third behind Alabama State. The North
Georgia women were 20th in the field of 20 teams, while the men
captured 16th place in the 19-team event.
Stephen Eckenroth had the highest finish of the day for North
Georgia, taking fourth in the men’s high jump, clearing 1.93
meters in the final. Alabama’s Mike Edwards won the event at
2.03 meters.
Annie James captured the only two points on the women’s side
for North Georgia, finishing fourth in the pole vault event,
clearing 2.75 meters for two points. There was a three-way tie for
the victory, led by Jacksonville State’s Amber Wiley at 3.35
meters.
The North Georgia Track & Field team returns to action on
March 26-27 in Atlanta, Ga., at the Emory University Classic.
