Lady Saints Battle the Elements, Place 4th at UGA
BISHOP, GA –
The North Georgia women’s cross country team battled the
elements Saturday morning as they posted 117 total points to place
fourth in the five-team field at the University of Georgia
Invitational as heavy rain covered the course.
The University of Georgia shined at their home course Saturday
morning, recording a perfect score of 15 on the newly designed
5000-meter course. The Lady Bulldogs had the first eight finishers,
and were responsible for 10 of the first 11 runners to cross the
line. Georgia’s Kristie Krueger captured the title, recording
a time of 18:54.29 as the only runner under the 19-minute mark.
Emory University placed second at the event with 50 points, while
Peach Belt Conference and in-state rival Augusta State finished
third with 85 points, and the Lady Saints were fourth with 117
points. Oglethorpe rounded out the field with 149 points.
Samantha Silvers led the Lady Saints for the first time in her
young career, placing 26th overall with a time of 21:45.27, while
teammate Katie Vance followed in 35th place, posting a time of
22:49.80.
Becky Dunn finished just three places behind Vance, coming in 38th
place overall with a time of 23:03.48, while Taylor Hansen was four
places behind Dunn in 41st place, running the course in
23:33.58.
Clare Madrid rounded out the top five for the Lady Saints, as the
senior finished 43rd overall with a time of 23:47.67.
North Georgia returns to action next Saturday, competing in their
fourth event in as many weeks as they travel to Macon, Georgia, to
participate in the Mercer Runfit Sports Invitational, one of the
largest events in the southeast as 24 women’s teams and 22
men’s teams competed last year in the invitational. The event
will take place at the Georgia Children’s Home.
